California States was dope. The turnout was great, nice venue, good backing by the sponsors, all in all a great competition. Congratulations DrYoYo for running a topnotch contest. I booked my flight back in January so I could show up and help out as a judge for the competition. At that time it didn’t look like too many people were attending so I figured I would take an early flight home. So I ended up booking my flight to leave the Sacramento airport at 7:00pm. Then last week Chris announces that the top freestyles in both divisions will be getting $1000 each.
Guess what happens… everyone shows up! We even had Moriki from Japan who came down! The airlines ask that you normally show up at the airport an hour before your flight so I should have been there at 6:00pm. It was 6:20pm and I was still sitting at the table clicking Augie’s awesome freestyle! Man I was nervous I was gonna miss my flight. As soon as Augie’s freestyle ended I ran straight for the car with Alex who was going to drop me off, shouting my goodbye’s to all the homies as I ran by them. Haha. Thank God there were only two girls in front of me going through the security checkpoint. I made it to the gate right on time.
Thanks to everyone who showed up and support. It was good seeing all the new players. Thanks again to DrYoYo for putting on a good show. A big shoutout to all the DXL homies and other friends. And a huge thanks to my sponsor Duncan for helping me get to the contest to help out.
Here are two videos from yesterday’s event. The first one is Jensen Kimmit’s $1,000 winning freestyle. The second is of DXL Crew member Paul Han’s badass freestyle. Be sure to look for the rest of the freestyles on Sector Y in the next week or so.
No doubt you’ve had some love for Saturn Precision YoYo’s. I’ve had my chance to have a few in my collection. I put a group of photo’s together to show some of the amazing details. Nothing new here, just some images I like.
The first SPYY I picke up, The Radian
Next addition was the Addict.
The roundness makes if feel great in the hand. One of the best balanced yo-yo’s I’ve tossed.
The Spyder was next, She was a wide yo-yo.
You have to do this color combo with a yo-yo named Spyder, it’s a must. What a looker.
Based off of the old wester style gun holsters, The Pistolero.
She’s HOTT.
The detail of the engraving is amazing.
With the help of 5A Player JonRob, SPYY desinged The Pure.
Due to the challenging machining work involved, there will be no more Pure’s produced. Look at the curve of the side cap, stunning.
Designed for 5A play, she can be used for just about anything.
SPYY has had several other model’s, these are just a few of my favorites. Rumor has it there are a few others in the works.
Mark McBride, Yoshi Mikamoto, and I will be running a contest for new and beginner yo-yoers tomorrow, February 6, 2010 at the Discovery Science Center in Santa Ana, CA. The event will be from 11:00am – 2:00pm and we’ll be focusing on teaching beginners the basics and fundamentals of yo-yoing. Then, we’ll let the kids take the stage and have a yo-yo trick battle. If you’ve been wanting to learn how to yo-yo, here is your chance. If you’re a veteran yo-yoer, come out and help us teach… we’re expecting plenty of students and it should be a lot of fun.

Cost of Admission Adults (18+) $12.95

Had a chance to kick off the year hanging out with some of the DXL Crew. I spent most of the week home sick so it was nice to get out. By the way, we’ll be having our first SoCal Yo-Yo class next Saturday, January 16, 2010 @ 1:00pm at the Starbucks on the corner of South Street and Gridley (Right across the street from the mall) in Cerritos. Bring all your questions, theories, and tricks you want to learn or discuss and we’ll help you out. Don’t be afraid. Seriously, don’t be afraid. We always get a couple new players who come and sit off to the side and yo-yo by themselves. Even after I introduce them to everyone they head straight for the side again to be by themselves. C’mon guys, stop being so intimidated.
Alex brought along a couple new flavors of his “i” yo-yo for us to throw around. The engraving on the red looks like a bandana. Pretty sweet especially if you’re a gangbanger and want matching gear. (That’s a joke, we don’t gangbang… not anymore at least.) pssst…. that’s another joke. Geez, why you all so uptight. The two new flavors should be making their way to the stores shortly. I forgot exactly where they are headed but I’ll try to give you guys a heads up when I talk to him again.
Also, I got to try some string that James made. Not James Lac, but little James. I think he calls them “Sick String”. He does a pretty good job with them and they feel nice. Haven’t had a chance to see how they wear after a few hours yet, but so far so good. Check them out if you can. Anyways, that’s all for now.
A big shout out to all my Duncan heads. I miss you guys. Let’s hang soon.
There have been ton’s of metal yo-yo’s released in past few years. Some great and some not so great. The one thing no one, manufacturer, has been able to do is please everyone’s color taste. Well the folks at Not Fail Anodizing is changing that issue.
I had to see first hand of how the finished product came out. I threw down a pretty large challenge. First came acid wash, in red variations, done. Second request, purple highlights, done. Third request, more red – solid, done. Fourth, my Web name somewhere on the yo-yo, “yotoy”. Well, it turned out even better than I had pictured it. I use the Panda as my avatar on most of my web pages, Not Fail Anodizing recognized this and added it to my custom YoYoFactory 888.
This past Halloween I met up with a few of the guys from RecRev and we shot this video featuring the new yo-yo i. The i is the smoothest yo-yo that Alex has made up to date. Of the samples that he had with him, most had absolutely no vibe and felt good to throw. Pick one up if you have a chance, they should be shipping to retailers in about two weeks.
It’s another first for me, my first MadHouse yo-yo that is. Now I feel like a slacker for letting prior releases slip by me. I’m starting to think the smaller boutique yo-yo company can’t be outdone. MadHouse falls into the boutique yo-yo company, they’ve released a little less than a handful of products in limited quantities. Why limited quantities? My guess is to maintain quality.
Last week I received a box of MadHouse yo-yo’s to photograph. It was the first time I had seen a MadHouse yo-yo in person. I’m now realizing why they sold so fast. The MadHouse 5150, Unkown, and Lucky 7 are all unique beauties. The Lucky 7 will be available shortly to the general public. I’d suggest you watch the on-line stores closely, a yo-yo this good lookin won’t be in stock very long.
As for a review of the latest MadHouse product, Lucky 7, well I’d suggest you keep an eye on YoYoNation.com. I’ve tossed mine a few times, feels like butta on a string.

I don’t have an address yet, but you call up Christie’s Toys Outlet for the information (619) 659-9898.

A reporter from dailypilot.com came out to the Duncan 80th Anniversary Tour demo at the Puzzle Zoo in South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa, CA on October 13, 2009. He created this video which was featured on the website. Here is a link to the original page: dailypilot.com
