Here’s a short promo video I put together for the DXL Battle Championships 2010 which will be held next month on August 21. All the players featured in the video are members of The DXL Crew. The contest is shaping up to be a big one. We’re even expecting international players this year! Go to http://www.dxlbattle.com for all the current info.

Here it is, the yo-yo that has been rumored to be named the “2010 i”, The Electric Daisy.  RecRev’s latest installment is probably my favorite RecRev yo-yo at the moment.  A lot was put into the design, yet it looks and feels very simplistic and minimal.  They were retailing at a local contest a couple weeks ago for $50.  Make sure this is in your “definitely must buy” category for future purchases.  I bought two myself.  One to rock, one to stock.

I added these two babies to my collection thanks to Ernie over at General-Yo.  The larger silver colored yo-yo is The Magnum, a satin-polished, nickel-plated, full-sized yo-yo made out of pure magnesium.  It isn’t a fast player, but it feels real good in the hand.  The addition of the wooden box which was hand turned from one piece of wood by Ernie’s father really makes this something special.  As I understand, not all pieces will come with a box so I was one of the lucky ones.

I also want to thank Ernie for making something special for me.  A custom engraved ministar, with the name “glasseye” laser-engraved on one side (not shown).  How dope is that?  Many many many thanks to General-Yo for the nice surprise.  General-Yo is really making a big impact on the yo-yo scene here in Southern California.  It’s definitely one of the favorite throws of many of the players in the area.

This Saturday, we’re getting together again for a local meet. We had a great turnout at the last one, it’s a shame I didn’t bring a camera. The meeting will start at 1pm, hope to see you all there. Please click here for the location and more information.

RecRev’s latest yo-yo, the no.9 made it’s debut at the DXL Crew meet over the weekend. My initial impression was that it looked an awful lot like a Superstar, but when I compared the two, there are a few differences. The no.9 is less wide than the Superstar and it also lacks hubstacks. The rim is completely circular shaped where as the Supertar is flat on the sides.  The side area of the no.9 which would normally have a hub is completely flat, similar to what you would see on a 44re:creation Sleipner.  For the response system, the no.9 is using General-Yo Hat pads.  Before being shipped off to retailers, the no.9 will be getting some simple laser engravings.  Alex said the retail on these will be $50.  This yo-yo plays as well as any other $100 yo-yo at half the price.  Look for them soon.

I’ve been a fan of Miguel Correa’s for some time. Following him from way back, The Texas Crew era. For years he and the other members of The Texas Crew were great promoters of our small community. It was always a good day when The Texas Crew released a new video, Eric Hesterman, Jesse Garcia, and Miguel put out some amazing video’s that advanced everyone’s playing level.

It’s always good to see good things happen to good people. For Miguel and the yo-yoing community the Genesis is a good thing. This beauty is a player first, followed up by some beauty. YoYoFactory and Miguel equate to some good vibes.

California States was dope. The turnout was great, nice venue, good backing by the sponsors, all in all a great competition. Congratulations DrYoYo for running a topnotch contest. I booked my flight back in January so I could show up and help out as a judge for the competition. At that time it didn’t look like too many people were attending so I figured I would take an early flight home. So I ended up booking my flight to leave the Sacramento airport at 7:00pm. Then last week Chris announces that the top freestyles in both divisions will be getting $1000 each.

Guess what happens… everyone shows up! We even had Moriki from Japan who came down! The airlines ask that you normally show up at the airport an hour before your flight so I should have been there at 6:00pm. It was 6:20pm and I was still sitting at the table clicking Augie’s awesome freestyle! Man I was nervous I was gonna miss my flight. As soon as Augie’s freestyle ended I ran straight for the car with Alex who was going to drop me off, shouting my goodbye’s to all the homies as I ran by them. Haha. Thank God there were only two girls in front of me going through the security checkpoint. I made it to the gate right on time.

Thanks to everyone who showed up and support. It was good seeing all the new players. Thanks again to DrYoYo for putting on a good show. A big shoutout to all the DXL homies and other friends. And a huge thanks to my sponsor Duncan for helping me get to the contest to help out.

Here are two videos from yesterday’s event. The first one is Jensen Kimmit’s $1,000 winning freestyle. The second is of DXL Crew member Paul Han’s badass freestyle. Be sure to look for the rest of the freestyles on Sector Y in the next week or so.
