The DXL Crew. Check the video freestyles section of  Sector Y for the West Coast Regional Freestyles. Check Jason Lee’s freestyle for skillz and Gallagher’s for pure chaos. Gallagher’s freestyle even includes a country-western rendition of Better Off Alone provided by DXL’s very own Jen Niles.

To see more of the DXL Crew bust, check out the Large Videos section. I added two new freestyles from the Worlds. One of Fee-Fee’s X-division freestyle (Loud annoying yells are provided by Mark McBride and yours truly). The other routine is by DXL’s own Blackie Chan (Mark Montgomery).

Now here’s an update a lot of you have been waiting for. Many of you have e-mailed me asking if you could get an MP3 of some of the music I’ve made for the videos on THEGLASSLAB. So I figured I’d do better than that and post some of Doc Pop’s music too. Whitey’s in the house! Go check out the new section “MP3 Files” on the menu to the left or just click here.

Alot of you have been having trouble getting reservations at the Holiday Inn for Nationals. Mo figured out that you need to tell them you’ll be in town for the competition. Bob had them set aside a block of rooms for the contest, but if they don’t know you’ll be there for the contest, they can’t offer you any of those rooms.

Well I’m back from hibernation. I’ve spent the last few days catching up on sleep, hanging out with friends, cleaning up around the house, and catching up on all my projects at work. It’s the first time since I’ve gotten back from the Worlds that I actually feel rested.

West Coast Regionals was pimp! The DXL Crew and Team Duncan were all up in there! It was the most fun alot of us had in a long time. Every time someone was doing their freestyle and they knotted up, about five Freehands were thrown from the audience at the person (and most of them ended hitting the guy). Good stuff! Of course about ten people had to use Better Off Alone as their freestyle song. At one point all of us were humming and singing along. That’s right baybee… Alice Deejay will never die… just multiply. Then we gathered to the front of the audience to count out loud how many times J.M. McNulty kicked his foot back during his freestyle. After about thirty times we lost count. Ash did an old school THP 1-handed freestyle to “Captain Jack” full of 1-hand fountains and looping. The part that surprised me the most was that he did it with hardly any mistakes (if any) using a Freehand the entire time. Gallagher decided to do his freestyle to no music which confused the heck out of the judges. In the middle of it he pulled out the metal rack that the chairs are stacked on and busted out some apparatus tricks. It was hilarious cause each time he threw a yo-yo at the apparatus and it landed, he let out a great big Zangief “YEAH!” For the last minute or so in his freestyle, he threw a sleeper, sat on the floor, crossed his legs, turned his hat to the side, and watched it die to exctinction. The look on the judges faces (Dale Oliver, Bill DeBoisblanc, Chuck Short, Cappy, Don Harrison) was priceless. The team freestyles were absolute chaos. Picture Barney’s Angels on crack. Basically ten or more guys would jump onto stage and do whatever the heck they wanted with no rhyme or reason. The best part of the team freestyles was when Matt Harlow slipped and fell flat on his butt. I went to Patrick Mitchell’s house earlier this week and we watched it in slow motion… Several times. Hehehe.

With all the fun that everyone was having, you’d think there wouldn’t be any good routines but there were plenty. Peter Samarin (DXL’s secret weapon) came out of nowhere to win the top freestyles with his amazing top trick “Red Rocket.” He also did a wicked juggling routine in the gonzo division. Jason Lee & the whole North Cali crew (Cit, Chasm, Jeff, Gary, Scott, Nathan, Joe) were reppin with killa 1-hand skillz. Alex (Ashkahn’s younger brother) and lil Jonathon Belcher did really well and I’m sure they’ll be big 1-hand contenders soon. Then of course Patrick Mitchell, J.M. McNulty, & the whole crew from Arizona (Adam, Sam, Markus, Matt) were tearing it up in the two-hand division.

After the contest we went to Jen’s house to chill and hang out in her backyard. Of course the sprinkler system was on a timer and it just happened to go off when all of us were smack dab in the middle of it all. Kate Miller put on a challenge (she thought all us Cali peeps couldn’t do Eiffel Tower). She lost. Buahaha. Then I watched Dale Oliver get his groove on to some funky music. If I only had more video tape (I was too lazy from the worlds to film anything). After Jen’s house Ambri, Sam, Adam, James, Jason, Felix, Sib, and I went miniature golfing. Our game was interupted when someone got shot in the arcade. Damn stupid peeps. The next day we went to another golfland and got our Lazer Tag Groove on! Kinda ironic now that I think of it. I ran around for 12 minutes huffin’ and puffin’, actin’ like I was saving private ryan. I was all excited thinking I won the game when I go to check my score:

People shot: 0

Accuracy: No shots fired

My damn gun was busted! They gave me a free game, but I was too tired (or should that be ‘too old?’) to continue so I just gave it to one of the kids. Now go make your hotel reservations for the Nationals!

Just finished uploading the rest of the top three freestyle videos for each division. You can find them in the Large Videos section. Check out Al’s freestyle if you want to see some new AAA stuff, check out Taka’s freestyle if you want to see a bunch of weird gadgets and yo-yos. In a couple more days, I’ll TRY to put up more of my favorite freestyles from the worlds. I’ve been neglecting alot of other things I’ve needed to take care of so I need to spend some time away from my computer. Hopefully I’ll find enough time to finish everything and still keep my sanity. Sanity is good.

I have a nice little update for you. But first of all, I just have to say…. dayumn it’s good to be back home! Orlando is chill (bad choice of words) and all, but it’s just wrong when you step outside at 8:00am and it feels like the peak of a heat wave in L.A. And another thing, is it me or are 75% of the workers there cranky? I almost died when one of the waitresses actually smiled. Anyways, I’ve uploaded the top three Single A freestyles as well as the 1st place Double A and X Division freestyles. You can find them in the Observational Footage section on the Large Videos page. I would’ve had the top three in each division, but I needed to catch up on sleep so I could get to work bright and early. I should have the rest up by Monday.

Well now that you all are happily downloading the freestyles and slowing the servers down to a crawl, here are some random thoughts on the whole trip:

  • Yu Kuwada’s Freestyle was amazing. He took a chance at doing a freestyle that wouldn’t rack up as many points as your usual “Teenager with too much caffeine” routine and I applaud him.
  • Ambri’s Pooh Bear scares me.
  • Having Jen wake you up using the Pooh Bear is even scarier.
  • Florida people like to drive illegally on the grass. I saw it happen four times during the trip.
  • Enrico is from Sweden!
  • Steve Brown is still the coolest.
  • Doc Pop is damn sexy!
  • Felix’s X Division freestyle made me damn proud of him.
  • The DXL and Duncan Crews are MUY SPINTASTICO!!!
  • I can play keyboards, fight with real swords, and perform a hip-hop dance routine all in front of thousands of people, but tie a yo-yo to my finger and stick me in front of two judges and I’ll start shaking like a freshman meeting Felix’s sister for the first time.
  • I never thought I’d see Rick Wyatt breakdancing.
  • Lucky’s patio is bigger than my house.
  • Stan and his kids lil-stan and nikoli kick big booty.
  • Black has as many yo-yo tricks as I have DXL gear.
  • ASHFORK!!!!
  • BLOPENS… ummm yeah.
  • Being stuck in the Denver airport for over six hours sucks.
  • Terry never stops smiling.
  • Doc Pop came late to the contest because he was hanging out with models.
  • Spy USA is probably the best thing in Orlando.
  • Chasm has unlocked the secret of the Japanese players.
  • Jason Lee is crazy.
  • Greg put on a great contest.
  • Speen’s hair scares me.
  • My gratitude to James Lac for helping me videotape the freestyles.
  • My love to my fiancee for coming with me to yet another contest.
  • I’m hungry. Time to go eat.

Well I was supposed to have a nice little update for you today, but in all honesty my head’s not on straight. Say it with me “INSOMNIA”. I’m a walking zombie today. I’m a bit overwhelmed with the stuff I need to finish before I leave for the Worlds. I stayed up till 1am last night putting together a loop video of all the single A and double A compulsory tricks which would be okay if I didn’t have to be at work by 7:30am. Glasseye + 5 hours of trying to fall asleep = Godzirra Zombie. Not good. Tonight won’t be any better cause I have to do some last minute mixing of some DXL freestyle music, pick up the tripod at Mom’s and Pop’s place, pack, and be at LAX by either 3:30am or 4:30am. I forget which one it is. I just hope the flight is good. Last year I took a redeye and I got stuck on an airplane with a broken airconditioner and the fellow sitting behind me coughing up his lung. So anyways, enough of my babbling. See you in ZzZzZzzzzz…
