The Southern California leg of the Duncan 80th Anniversary Tour is coming down to it’s last 3 days. If you haven’t had a chance to make it out yet, then hang your head low in shame. Don’t worry too much though… we’re ending the Southern California leg with some really dope venues. Here’s today’s schedule:
Imagination Workshop @ The Temecula Children’s Museum
42081 Main St.
Temecula, CA 92590
Time: 1:00 – 4:00pm
Thinker Things @ The Lomas Santa Fe Plaza
943 Lomas Santa Fe Drive
Solana Beach, CA 92075
Time: 6:00 – 8:00pm
You definintely won’t want to miss the huge demo tomorrow at the Party in the Park Event from 11:00am – 4:00pm in Alpine, CA. From what I hear we’ll have some DXL Crew members coming down to hang with the Duncan Crew guys. I don’t have an address yet, but you call up Christie’s Toys Outlet for the information (619) 659-9898.
Update: I spoke to Christie and the event will take place at:
Viejas Outlet Center
5000 Willows Road
Alpine, CA 91901
Time: 11:00am – 4:00pm
According to Christie, they are expecting a minimum of 5,000 people at this event (in the past they’ve had up to 10,000). You’ll be directed to park at the nearby casino and then walk your way over to the center. Look for us somewhere in the courtyard.
A reporter from dailypilot.com came out to the Duncan 80th Anniversary Tour demo at the Puzzle Zoo in South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa, CA on October 13, 2009. He created this video which was featured on the website. Here is a link to the original page: dailypilot.com
With the Duncan Tour hitting So Cal, Paul Escolar (Duncan, DXL Crew, Spindox) and Seth Petersen (Save Deth, DXL Crew) are in Los Angeles. We had a chance to chill and get some 5 Guys grub over the weekend. Rumor is Brandon Jackson (Duncan) will be arriving soon to add to the chaos. Fun!
The Duncan 80th Anniversary Tour finally hits Southern California… DXL Territory. Yath and I did a small news stint in San Diego on Saturday to help promote the demos. Be sure to check out duncancrew.org/tour for the complete list of Demos. Today we’ll be hitting up Toys R Us in Glendale, CA at 4pm. Tomorrow will be Puzzle Zoo in the South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, CA. Stop by if you guys have a chance!
I think it’s funny when I come across comments of people saying that the DXL Crew just doesn’t have the influence it used to. Just because we don’t go around posting in every single forum thread or start pissing contests doesn’t mean we’re not still around. In fact, if you were paying close attention, you would have noticed that 4 of the 5 divisions at nationals were taken by The DXL Crew. This video is dedicated to those who think we’re washed up.
Filmed by glasseye on the day before the 2009 National Yo-Yo Contest. Of the 5 divisions in the contest, 4 of them were won by DXL Crew members: 1A Yuuki Spencer, 2A Patrick Mitchell, 3A Hank Freeman, 5A Miguel Correa. DXL Crew… we still on top. Killing the nonsense since 2000.
Too much stuff has been going on. Oh the stories! Lots of stuff that I can’t post. Ha! I have more pictures to post from yesterday, but I don’t have the time right now. Plus Bride and Yath are still sleeping and the mouse clicks are disturbing them. I have to leave Nationals today at 12:00pm because I have a commitment back at home that I can’t miss. I’m going to head out to the contest now to make the most of the 3 hours I have. It sucks, but I figure it’s better to hang out a little then miss the whole thing! And so far it’s been worth it. Here are a few pics to tie you down until I post again. Mad love.
Finally got into Chico around 3:00pm and checked out the Holiday Inn. Nobody was there so I went down to Bird in Hand. Ernie and his wife Kathy were there (General Yo) with their new Hat Trick yo-yo. It was also nice to see Dick Storh, Dazzling Dave, Bob Malowney, and Thad. Eventually Hironori showed up with Masanobu, Moriki, and Kengo and then Steve and Jonrob showed up from SPYY with Mark Hayward.
We headed to Sierra Nevada for dinner and met up with Brandon Jackson, Mike Burke, Escolar, Gabe, Gary Longoria, and Mark Montgomery. Paul looks happy.
Afterwards I went back to the hotel and kicked it a bit with Krisgoat, Schnayke, and Dylan. Somehow wound up in Jonrob’s room and eventually the Duncan Tour Crew rolled in we got our rooms.
Finally started falling asleep around 2:00am and was woken up when Bride knocked on my door. Bride and Jack made it to Chico at 3:00am. I’m off to breakfast at Denny’s now. Post more later.
Once again, I’m making my trek out to Chico, CA for the 2009 National Yo-Yo Contest. I left this morning from the Long Beach Airport which was a dope little airport. I’m used to flying out of LAX and Orange County, but had a chance to fly out of Long Beach today. It reminded me of the airports you see in old movies. Much smaller and alot less traffic. Now I’m sitting around in the Sacramento airport waiting for Brandon Jackson’s plane to get in so we can carpool up to Chico.
The rest of the DXL Crew from Southern Cali are driving up from Los Angeles tomorrow night. Hopefully things get poppin tomorrow night. Crucial will have a table at Nationals selling our T-shirts. Be sure to stop by and say hi to me and Paul. We’ll also have Heavy Creams and probably the Tres Leches to try out. Hope you all make it out.
