RecRev’s latest yo-yo, the no.9 made it’s debut at the DXL Crew meet over the weekend. My initial impression was that it looked an awful lot like a Superstar, but when I compared the two, there are a few differences. The no.9 is less wide than the Superstar and it also lacks hubstacks. The rim is completely circular shaped where as the Supertar is flat on the sides. The side area of the no.9 which would normally have a hub is completely flat, similar to what you would see on a 44re:creation Sleipner. For the response system, the no.9 is using General-Yo Hat pads. Before being shipped off to retailers, the no.9 will be getting some simple laser engravings. Alex said the retail on these will be $50. This yo-yo plays as well as any other $100 yo-yo at half the price. Look for them soon.
Had a chance to kick off the year hanging out with some of the DXL Crew. I spent most of the week home sick so it was nice to get out. By the way, we’ll be having our first SoCal Yo-Yo class next Saturday, January 16, 2010 @ 1:00pm at the Starbucks on the corner of South Street and Gridley (Right across the street from the mall) in Cerritos. Bring all your questions, theories, and tricks you want to learn or discuss and we’ll help you out. Don’t be afraid. Seriously, don’t be afraid. We always get a couple new players who come and sit off to the side and yo-yo by themselves. Even after I introduce them to everyone they head straight for the side again to be by themselves. C’mon guys, stop being so intimidated.
Alex brought along a couple new flavors of his “i” yo-yo for us to throw around. The engraving on the red looks like a bandana. Pretty sweet especially if you’re a gangbanger and want matching gear. (That’s a joke, we don’t gangbang… not anymore at least.) pssst…. that’s another joke. Geez, why you all so uptight. The two new flavors should be making their way to the stores shortly. I forgot exactly where they are headed but I’ll try to give you guys a heads up when I talk to him again.
Also, I got to try some string that James made. Not James Lac, but little James. I think he calls them “Sick String”. He does a pretty good job with them and they feel nice. Haven’t had a chance to see how they wear after a few hours yet, but so far so good. Check them out if you can. Anyways, that’s all for now.
A big shout out to all my Duncan heads. I miss you guys. Let’s hang soon.
This past Halloween I met up with a few of the guys from RecRev and we shot this video featuring the new yo-yo i. The i is the smoothest yo-yo that Alex has made up to date. Of the samples that he had with him, most had absolutely no vibe and felt good to throw. Pick one up if you have a chance, they should be shipping to retailers in about two weeks.
