The trick we have the best record of is Double Rock the Baby. Dale Oliver is credited with coming up with this one in the late fifties. There is also a picture of Bob Rule doing it and he credits learning it from a high school kid in California (Details). The dates are all a little sketchy; Bob Rule was working with Ken Filary (who you may know from the Duncan Top vid) and Carl Bates in SoCal, circa 60/61 when he picked it up. The best date I got on Dale was from his wife who told me that he came up with it in 1959. The picture above was published on the front page of the Wall Street Journal. The joke is that the actual picture this was drawn from is a very well circulated publicity shot of Dale where he's doing Double Baby, but in the WSJ's version notice there's only one yoyo and an empty string.
