MER and Worlds August 16, 2004

Duncan! Hey everyone! It is Monday, August 16, 2004 and I just got back from MER and Worlds. If you have never been to a contest or are not sure if you should spend the time and money to go, I'm here to tell you that you need to go! It's worth it. The yoyo community has not reached the level of mainstream status Yuuki Spencer (yet) and because we are such a small community, we all seem to take care of one another. I've never seen another sport where its participants take care of each other as much as we do. Novices have respect for the more advanced players, but advanced players have respect for them as well, it's awesome. Worlds is the pefect example of this. Can you imagine getting AA tips from Shinji?! or AAA tips from Shima?! What about working on some new single A stuff with Mickey, Jason Lee or any of the other people who have inspired you?! You can at Worlds. I can't think of anyone who is un-approachable at Worlds.

Singapore There are all kinds of workshops where you can watch and learn how to mod, dye, and design yoyos, workshops that you can take your A-5A to new levels and even one that shows you how the pros make their clip videos. There is some non-yoyo craziness that takes place too. Ther is so much going on, you forget to do things like eat and sleep. There are people who don't want to leave and just crash out where ever they are, it's funny ;) A lot of just plain having fun and hanging out. Oh, the Contest! WOW! To see clip videos of freestyles is one thing, but to see the pros up on stage is incredible.

MER, and all the other regional contest, have the same feel on a smaller level though. If you can't make it to the larger events, see if you can make a trip to your regional contest. If you make it to one, you'll be hooked.

I can't thank the sponsors of all these events enough. More often than not, the sponors loose money, but they continue to take the time, energy and money to make these events happen. Please take the time to make it to a contest or yoyo meeting and support the sponsors! THEY RULE!!!

Thank you,

Takeshi Kamisato
